Answer
Kiki,

In order to be a homicide investigator in most Departments you have to take a test to be promoted to Detective from Patrolman. Their salary is no more then any other officer with the same rank. Usually they are Detective Sergeants. As for the High School courses I would say to take college prep classes to help you can get through college.  I really don't know what else to tell you. There are also schools that the Departments will send you to. For example in Ohio they will send officers to the Ohio Police officers training academy in London Ohio. Hope this helped somewhat.
