Question
I am a student at Thomas College and I was assigned a speech project about federal police officers.  The only problem is that there is nothing in our textbooks, library or on the internet that I can find.  If you could possibly give me a little info or tell me where I might be able to find some info I would greatly appreciate it.
P.S. - Is a federal police officer the same as an FBI agent or any similar agents from federal agencies?

Answer
Hi Amy!

To answer the biggest question, "No"..federal police officers are different from FBI agents, in that an FBI agent is concerned with "big" type federal crimes (terrorism, fraud, etc), and investigates them...whereas the "Federal Police officer" (such as US Park Police, Department of Army Police, etc) does the traditional type of police work, except they work on federal property.

That is really the only difference between "Federal" police officers, and the "local" police, is jurisdiction.

Believe it or not, you might want to try www.usajobs.com, and search using just the word "Police", concentrating either on your local area or a section of the country;  not only will that give you job descriptions of Federal law enforcement, you'll most likely also be able to link into different websites for those agencies.  Plus, you'll get to see salary and benefits.

 Good luck with your speech!
