Question
what would the police do with a child if the child's mother was say dead and the father was in jail? Who would they hand the child over to? Is there anything it would depend on?

Answer
Hi Kelsey,

Without knowing the full circumstances of the matter to which you refer it is difficult to give a definite answer. Normally a child would hopefully stay within the family group (such as relatives, grandparents etc). It is normally as a last resort that they would place a child in foster care.

Hope this helps

Neil
