Question
I'm writing a short story, and I need to know if a police officer would realistically visit a small crime scene where no one was hurt by himself?  This would be after dark in a low income neighborhood in a city.

Answer
When a Police Officer goes on a radio call to do an investigation of a crime, ie burglary, robbery, ect. That responding officer determines if there is evidence that should be collected by a crime scene tech. If that officer believes that it would add to the chances of an apprension of a suspect or solving the crime that responding officer then will call for a crime scene tech. The time of day or area in which the crime occured makes no difference. So I guess the answer to your question would be yes. If I can be of any more help just ask.

Good luck
