Question
Hello
I am in grade 10 and i am trying to figure out what career I would like to do when I graduate and I was wondering what kind of courses do i have to take or is there any other training that could help me in the process of becoming a law enforcement officer? What would you recomend?

Answer
Cassandra, the first thing I would do is to arrange a "ride-along in a patrol car...most agencies allow this and it is a good way to determine if you are cut out for law enforcement.  You would need you parents okay.  Next I would check out what your local colleges and universities offer as far as course related to law enforcement, i.e., criminal justice, police administration and so forth.  You might also talk with women who have chosen law enforcement as a career to see what they think about their choices.  Hope this helps.

I`ve spent twenty-five years in law enforcement as a state trooper and deputy sheriff. Retired as a lead homicide investigator. My interest is in answering questions dealing with ethical and moral dilemmas facing officers in the field.
