Question
why is it you have to be 21 years old to become a police officer and can you give me somewhere as a resource?

Answer
Doug, being 21 is established as being the milestone in our world as far as maturity goes.  Legally, it would be a problem to place the responsibilities of a law enforcement officer on someone younger than 21.  The level of stressful situations require that the person charged with enforcing our laws act with care and responsibility.  As to the other part of your question...a resource...I don't have a clue about that...just check the internet...google the term "peace officer requirements".  Good luck.

I`ve spent twenty-five years in law enforcement as a state trooper and deputy sheriff. Retired as a lead homicide investigator. My interest is in answering questions dealing with ethical and moral dilemmas facing officers in the field.
