Question
Hi, I have wanted to be a police officer since I was little. However during Junior year of college I had a rather lengthy traumatic experience that caused me to take anti-anxiety pills for 8 months. I have gotten off the pills in March of this year because doctor felt I did not need them any longer. Since then I forgot that I ever had that problem. I am currently applying to about 5 police departments. I was wondering if this is something that will hinder me from the career. Thank you.

Answer
Max, not knowing what you are referring to regarding a traumatic experience, I cannot offer any ideas on that.  I can only tell you that a person's past is something that only that person can really deal with.  If you can truly say to yourself that the event has been placed in your brain's recycle bin, then you are on your way.  Just keep in mind that all of us carry some significant mental baggage, but life goes on.  Just get over the bumps and start making the coming years ones of productivity in setting your career.  As far as the psych testing, answer questions honestly and with faith in your abilities.  Good luck
