Question
From your experience, what type pf general personality is most useful in law enforcement - in other words, what type of individual tends to choose law enforcement and how satisfied are they in general with that choice? what pleasure or satisfaction is most usually found in police work?

Answer
A good question...not sure if it is a personality or a personal experience template, however, I think that a person slow to excite...one who is street savvy and knows the ropes...has had some bumps in life...who finds life rewarding and is quick to help in most situations generally fits the bill.  Most good cops derive satisfaction from taking bad guys off the street...they are not confused about the whys and wherefors...only that their job is to maintain a sense of order.  They don't spend a lot of time fretting over whether the laws are just or not...only that they apply for most of us and the courts can do the interpreting.

I`ve spent twenty-five years in law enforcement as a state trooper and deputy sheriff. Retired as a lead homicide investigator. My interest is in answering questions dealing with ethical and moral dilemmas facing officers in the field.
