Question
What age can I become a police officer and how much training will I need?

Answer
Marcus, generally, you have to be 21 by the time you become a sworn officer.  Many agencies have explorer programs where you can experience some of the duties a law enforcement officer performs while deciding if this is really for you.  You will be required to attend and successfully conclude an academy for the department you decide upon.  Also, many departments seek those who have a college degree.  Good luck.

I`ve spent twenty-five years in law enforcement as a state trooper and deputy sheriff. Retired as a lead homicide investigator. My interest is in answering questions dealing with ethical and moral dilemmas facing officers in the field.
