Question
my wife is interested in becoming a police officer.  we have three children that are young.  I asked my wife if she would consider another job in law enforcement that would not require her to do patrol.  are there any?  no one in the family including our children wants her to do this.  I would like to know what she can do if she gets a degree instead of working as an officer in law enforcement.
thank you

Answer
Sean, generally becoming a law enforcement officer will involve patrol work at some time.  I should point out that many police officers nowadays have college degrees, so her not having one would somewhat minimize her hiring level.  Perhaps, if she is so inclined, she could attend college majoring in a field that would be of benefit to law enforcement, i.e., the dna field, or some scientific category that could land her a job in a crime lab.  Most experts I have dealt with who obtained this career type job were very happy with their choice.  Hope this thing resolves well for you both.
