Question
I'm interested in working with autistic children where I am able to incorporate art therapy as a form of communication and creativity. My only concern is that I would also like to get my license to teach special education as well. Are there any universities which such a Masters degree?

Answer
Dear Nadia,

I think you are best off consulting your guidance counselor or asking for help at the local public library.  There are so many universities that I couldn't even begin to scratch the surface.  You probably could ask the state department of education for the states you might consider living in to recommend some universities.  While they can't pinpoint one, they can give you ones that focus on your dreams and you can go from there.

I can certainly recommend Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH - I'm not sure what their special ed program is like, but I'm sure they have something.  University of Vermont in Burlington, VT as well.  (I attended both)

Kent State in Ohio is one my friend attended and she was a special ed supervisor for years.

I hope these serve as a springboard to you.

Sorry I am late answering this - I have been preparing to move and ran into some major problems so put all else on the back burner.

Debba
