Question
Hello Bonnie,
I am foreign language instructor and cross-cultural coach. I am in California, I teach Greek and my classes are online. I would love to  teach the Gifted and Talented young men and women but  some how  I have difficulties  finding them… Any  suggestions? Perhaps where to look? Thank you in advance for your time!

Answer
Dear Gea,

What an interesting question.  I've always wanted to be able to read Greek.  Do you want to teach Greek to Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students or just teach GATE students?  In order to teach in a public school in California, you need to pass the CBEST and have a teaching credential.  Most school districts in California have programs for GATE students, though there isn't a huge amount of money involved.  You don't say if you already have a credential or passed the test, but if not, I'd say that you need to start there.  A counselor at a local university will be able to inform you about when the next CBEST will be administered.  If you are not interested in teaching in public schools, parochial schools may be a place to start, because they may be looking for a teacher of Greek.  Also inquiring at seminaries might be another idea.

Let me know if you'd like further assistance.

Best Wishes,
Bonnie
