Careers: Teaching/Higher degrees

Question
Hi it's me again,
I might as well move in at this point. lol. So the way you see things one could never really be "overqualified" due to being too educated? You know how typical that may sound from someone who works in academics? :) My question is should someone seek a degree that interests them, or look for the most marketable degree? I like being a psych major. The topic is so very interesting, but it's probably not as useful careerwise then an MBA would be. If I were to go to grad school shouldn't I follow my gut on what is interesting? Also what do you think about "multidisiplinary" majors? Like "Arts and Humanities" whereby I could get a masters taking courses in psych, literacture, socialogy, philosophy, and other related subjects? And why did you douby one could get a doctorate in business? Business as a whole must be more broad then economics and an economics teacher I had had her PHD. Business I would imagine requires a good amount of knowledge of economics and the flow of assets?

Answer
Hi again :) The reason I say that no person can be overqualified is because these days these change so rapidly. You have to constantly be learning to keep up with updates and  changes... especially in med and education... we are contanstly learning and improving our old ways of doing things... Let me put it to you this way... my best friend Kristin got a degree in Creative Writing. She has been out of school for 4 years, and can only find jobs that pay about 10 bucks an hour. She is struggling to pay bills, she's always broke... borrow's money from her father and mother... etc. etc. BUT she always tells me that she is waiting for that big break, and that she doesn't regret her degree because she loves to write...It's up to you... do what's going to make you happy...  I didn't doubt a doctorate in business, I just didn't know off the top of my head if one could get a DR. in business??? As for the Arts and Humanities, unless you want to teach at the college level, thost are major's that will put you in the same boat as my friend. You may love it, but will it get you a job and money? AGain, you've got to do what's best for you and what's going to make you happy. Later :)
