Question
How has Elementary Teaching changed in the last fifty years?

Answer
Much more is expected of elementary school teachers than ever before. At one time it was possible to become an elementary school teacher without a real understanding of science, mathematics and foreign language. That has changed dramatically.
Another relatively new issue facing teachers is the increasing emphasis on standardized testing. Even children in KINDERGARTEN are being tested! Many throughout education feel this is a very misguided direction to follow.
Finally, legal issues become more important by the day and as a result many hours are spent on paperwork designed to please administrators who in turn want to avoid displeasing local, state and federal authorities.
