Question
Hello,
What is the difference between Summa Cum Laude and Magnum Cum Laude? Which is preferred, i.e. which is higher?

Answer
Outstanding achievement in a bachelor's degree may be designated by the Latin phrases cum laude (with praise), magna cum laude (with great praise), or summa cum laude (with the highest praise).

Summa Cum Laude is when you graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher. Magna Cum Laude is graduating with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7. Cum Laude is graduating with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.
