Question
Hi!,

I noticed that you graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, I'm from Pittsburgh myself and have some questions.  I'm considering a career in teaching.  Currently I have an associates in accounting.  I know that I have to first get a bachelors in education.  I work full time and have two kids, so sitting in a classroom is out for me.  I want to get my BA through an on line school.  Do you know if most school districts in Pittsburgh accept an on line degree?  I'm thinking of getting my BA thru the University of Phoenix.  Thanks for your time.

Answer
You did not say whether of not you already have a bachelors degree. If you do, you will not need to start from scratch, but rather can pursue a masters degree in education building on your previous degree.
I would be VERY cautious about the online universities. Many of them have gotten into trouble lately [see the special edition of Forbes Magazine for December 2004]. Better would be to find a conventional university that caters to people in your situation. I would check out the department of education at the University of Pittsburgh for starters.
I think that many school districts would be very uncomfortable with a strictly online degree in this day and age.
