Question
Hi,
I am a current student at Old Dominion University, and I am persuing a undergrad degree in Interdisiplinary Studies (pk-6)and I am about to get married. In the fall I will be a junior, and I plan to get married after I graduate. My fiance is in the Air Force, and I wanted to know if I needed to join the military to teach in their schools or is my marriage good enough? Also, I wanted to know if you knew the pay-scale for military teachers?

Answer
Hi there... I hope I can help.. I know nothing about the military! But I know teachers who are military wives and work at Tinker Elementary School here in Tampa. Military schools in the U.S. are under the same guidelines as the district that they are in. You do NOT have to join the military in order to teach on a base school. They are not run by the military or the base they are located. They are federally funded just like any other school. Now where you'll find a catch is if you need to move from state to state. You'll probably have to recertify for the different states.. As for pay scales.. again it would be the same as the district that the base is located in. Anything outside the US, I wouldn't know about off hand, but I found this website that seems to have a ton of information and some contact numbers. Hope I've helped... if I find anything else, I'll post a repost to you.
