hello, my question is, how much public approval would you say primary school teachers have?

I think this question is impossibly broad ... how much public approval do they have?  Have for what?  For teaching - a lot, for disciplining, very little, for holding kids to high expectations and all that that implies, not enough.  Each state is different ... each town is different ...

I haven't taught for any length of time in the US since 1990, so it's really not something for which I can comment with a lot of authority.  One reason I left the US was because I felt teachers were not respected and administrators didn't support their teachers.  I teach in international schools because I got to spend a larger percentage of my time on actually teaching, rather than playing policeman and doing paperwork to prove that I was teaching what needed to be taught.

Experience

I have been teaching for 30 years with a MEd in Reading and Language Arts, a BA in Elementary Education. For 6 years I taught computer to grades K-8. I have taught in combined grades (K-2 and 2-3 splits)in the US and overseas. The bulk of my elementary experience is in second and third grades, although I've taught K, 1, 2, 3 and 5 as a self-contained experience. Twenty-two years of my experience teaching has been in international schools in Africa and Asia.
