I couldn't find work in St. Louis due to strikes back in 1974, so I did the next best thing and used whatever engineering coursework I had to launch a 25 year career in industry r&d and quality assurance. I have been all over the U.S. and in China on business. I have been out of full time work for quite a while because work has dried up in St. Louis in my field. I now work for a third less with no benefits with a temporary service.

I had no big desire to go into the classroom, but always felt (esp. now at 53) that somehow, some way this business experience coupled with my lifelong teacher's certificate in Missouri might be of some good.  Maybe not.   Without being a classroom teacher per se, what is left besides being a substitute? With your past experience, try writing a grant proposal. Below are the latest RFP that are coming out of Washington.   You could partner with a university, community college or school district. Or offer your services as a grant writer.
