Careers: Writing/deal

Question
Just today, I saw that an author of the same genre as the book I have written has a six figure deal to make his books into films. Should I include this info in my query? If so what is the best way to go about it?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi, Demetrius.

I don't know that it would really help. There are an awful lot of authors who get film deals, when others don't. It's more based on the BOOK than the genre, so doesn't really have much to do with your manuscript, even if it's on the same subject.

What you CAN do is add a line to your query to tell an editor that you think your book would attract the same readers. Something like, "I believe fans of Clive Cussler [or whoever] would enjoy my novel." You always want to state it's your BELIEF, because the agent or editor might disagree. But at least it gives them something to go on and shows that you know the market well enough to know who will read your book.  Hope that helps! :)
