Careers: Writing/Should I try to get published

Question
I am a sixty-one year old businessman getting ready to retire.  I have always thought I could write.  I've written a story, 12K words, that my six readers all like.  I'm pretty proud of it myself.  What is the next step for someone like me who needs an expert to tell the truth about the work.  I need someone to tell me if the story is worthy of publishing or not even close.  Also, what it the general feeling about the limited use of profanity in dialog?  Thanks.

Answer
Hello Michael:

You are right in seeking professional advice for your story. Friends and family are not inclined to discourage you or hurt your feelings, nor do they generally know much about writing or publishing.

At my website, http://pygmypress.com I offer critiques and assessment services at a reasonable price. If you are interested, you may contact me from there.

I hope this has helped. If it has, a nice rating would be greatly appreciated. I am proud of my high scores over 1350 questions.

And thanks for writing!
