I am wondering what copywriting is and how can I go about getting paid experience as a copy writer?

What courses / or formal education can I take in copywriting?

Hi Will,

Many thanks for your question.  Copywriting is essentially the art of selling with your writing.  It is all about persuading the reader to take action be it signing up for a newsletter or buying a product, whatever your client is looking for.  Copywriting is the highest paying freelance writing service but there is also a large learning curve to this also.  Copywriters write sales pages, direct mails etc and you need to learn exactly how to do this correctly.  There are a number of great copywriting courses out there and I would suggest that you also follow copywriting blogs such as Copyblogger and do a search for reviews on different copywriting courses.  If you are going to take a course then you should be prepared to pay a couple of thousand dollars for a good one.  I would suggest that you read as much as you can and check out all the different courses before deciding on any one in particular.  Each copywriter has their own unique style and when you find someone you like you can then focus on taking their course.
