Thanks for the reply! What about the Riu in Negril?  In your opinion are the beaches nicer there? Also, how much further away from the aiport is Negril as compared to Ocho Rios?  Thanks again for the help?

My friends and I are going to be going to stay at the Riu in Ochos Rios or to one of the Riu's in the Dominican Republic.  We are going to be going in May.  Which destination has the better beaches? Thanks

Actually both countries have beautiful beaches!
The RIU in Ocho has an okay beach, nothing great, rather crowded.
If a great beach with white,soft sand is what you are looking for, then Punta Cana D.R. will make your vacation great!
RIU resorts are a very good choice for a vacation.

I have not personally visited RIU Negril, however the beaches in Negril are the best in Jamaica. Still not quite as nice as in D.R.
I LOVE Jamaica, it is such a beautiful country, much more rustic... also more dangerous overall.
It is about a 1.5 hour drive ( unless the highway has finished completion ) from MBJ to Negril area, much of it a rather nervewracking trek for some. I thought it was great going there but the drive back to the airport was a bummer. Of course, we were going home, so that's always a bummer :)
