Question
Hi Wendy,

We are an active couple who like to hike and bike, and historical sites etc.  We also have a 14 month old child.  We live in Va and would like to slip away for 6 to 7 days the second week in March.

We want to take our daughter Lebron down to the beach to walk in the sand, and take long walks ourselves.

Can you recommend a place that will fit our needs and is easy to get to?

One place I am thinking about is Bermuda, but I am worried that it won't be warm.

Terry

Answer
Hello Terry,

You are right, Bermuda is not going to be overly warm & will likely be very windy, especially for a 14 month old.

Florida (though not in the Caribbean)has so much to offer & would be very easy for you to get to.
Central Florida offers numerous state parks with great hiking & biking trails & the historic Bok Sanctuary.
There is a biking/hiking trail on the rim canal of Lake Okeechobee. And of course the unique & amazing Everglades, numerous trails & a very unique experience overall.
Now, if you really want to get into the Caribbean, consider the Dominican Republic. Beautiful beaches, warm balmy breezes, culture, hiking, etc.
Santo Domingo is rich in history. Christopher Columbus settled there for instance.
The Dominican Republic geography ranges from semi-desert to wonderful rainforests. I believe there are 13 or 14 state parks, some offer hiking/biking trails.
The beaches in the Punta Cana area are some of the best in the world, specifically the Bavaro Beach area.
Getting to the D.R. will be relatively easy for you as there are numerous flights offered daily.
As a note, the R.R. allows semi nudity, European women go topless on the beach which some Americans find offensive.
Also, don't forget you will need a passport to travel outside of the U.S.

I hope this info has been somewhat helpful! I am a travel agent if you need assistance in booking your vacation.

Have Fun!

Wendy
