Carnival/Wine to carry on board

Question
Are fortified wines (like sherry) allowed to be brought aboard the day of departure. We want to relax in our balcony atateroom with some friends who are traveling with us and sip some sherry.
Carnival Cruiselines allows (1) "sealed" "unopened" bottle of champagne or wine per adult passenger to be brought onboard ship IN YOUR CARRY ON BAG ONLY. Alcohol or wine placed in checked luggage will be confiscated and returned to passenger on the last evening of the cruise.
