Carnival/first time cruiser

QuestionHi. I have a couple of questions about cruising. I'm thinking of going on a cruise that would leave from Miami Feb.1st and return Feb.4th. I would be flying from New York to Miami, and the flight I want to take would arrive 5 or 6 hours before the cruise leaves, and I would have the same issue on my return flight on the 4th. I don't want to book a hotel just for those hours because I'm going to be on the boat most of the time, but I also don't want to wander around Miami while I wait to depart for the cruise and when I wait for my return flight to New York. My question is do people usually book a hotel room in their departure city if they are coming into town for a cruise? Also, are people required to leave the boat when it docks, or can they stay on if they want? Sorry, that the question is so long. Thanks in advance!
AnswerDaielle, I'll give you my thoughts....Arriving 5-6 hours ahead of time is cutting it short in my opinion; because of the weather in New York at that time of the year. If your flight is delayed and you miss the ship; it won't wait for you.
You can board the ship ususally around 11:30 AM. You can't wander around Miami as the airport is 15 min from the port. Once you're at the port, there is nothing their but the port; your only opportunity to "wander" would be to catch a cab to the mall that's not too far from the port; but, then you'd have all your luggage..
As far as your trip home; make sure your flight is after 11 AM. The ship will take all passengers going to the airport aboard busses, so when you board will depend on who has the earlies flight. If you wish to catch a cab to the airport and not take the bus; you can stay on board until the last group is called, but not later than that as they must get ready for the next bunch of passengers.
I can't give you concrete info on the weather in Feb, I'd just hate for your to miss your cruise, since it's only a 4 day.
Ask away if you have more questions.
