PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR QUESTION:
We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).
Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
Question I recently purchased a venus flytrap and a sundew plant. I read that the pot should be in standing water at all times. Does that simply mean that if the pot is in a tray, always make sure there is at least some water standing in the they for the pot/dirt to absorb? Thanks!
Answer Hi Erik,
For bog species such as Venus flytraps and sundews the crucial concept is that the soil should never be dry. We like to keep them in about 1/2" to 1/4" of water. Be sure the water is no more than half way up the pot. For detailed information on growing Venus flytraps, sundews and other carnivorous plants visit: http://www.cobraplant.com/caresheets/
