PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR QUESTION:
We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).
Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
Question So, I have a venus flytrap that I picked up at a local nursery [sadly before I
found out about cobraplants.com] and it looks like it is starting to produce
flowers. Can they fertilize themselves using their own pollen, or does it require
pollen from another venus flytrap? I guess my question is, since I have only one
flytrap, will I be able to produce seeds?
Answer Hi Aaron,
Sometimes another flower on the same plant can work, but usually self-pollinaton doesn't on Venus flytraps. Chances are you won't be able to get seeds this year unless you get another plant in bloom.
