Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
Question Hi,have an tropical highland pitcher plant from a greenhouse. the guy told me to put it at the windowsill at the south or west. i could not put it there because it was not bright enough for my pitcher plant, what can i do if this happens, is there any other place i can put? i see some brown small pitchers at the tip of the tendril is this problem? my plant distribution is the mountains of Malaysia
Answer Hi Trang,
You'll just need to look at the windows in your house and see which ones get some direct sun. To do their best they need about 3 hours of sun on a sunny day. You can also supplement the plant with artificial light. A fluorescent desk lamp about 4 inches from the plant combined with ambient window light makes a good combination. Leave the light on for about 14 hours a day. A timer makes this much easier.
The brown tips are probably older leaves and pitchers that didn't develop. Your plant will need to adapt to your home before you see new pitchers. This can take several weeks.
