Carnivorous Plants/Partially severed nepenthes

Question
Earlier today a freak accident ( falling plant light) partially severed the long
stem of my Copelandii! It still can stand upright and I taped it into position
but I am worried it won't make it. Is there anyway to salvage this situation? I've
had this plant for a few years now and its one of my favorites. If its not
salvageable, will you be carrying more Copelandii anytime soon? :(

To follow up on a post I made last february about my miranda leaves getting
brown spots, I am happy to report it's doing well. I repotted it and crossed my
fingers, and while the main plant still has the brown spot problem, now there
are two additional plants growing from the base!

Answer
Hi Katie,

You actually did exactly what I would have done.  I've had this to happen to Nepenthes many times in shipping or from a fall.  They are amazingly resilient as long as the stem in relatively intact at the break point.  They cambium tissue will repair itself partially.

The only other thing I would do in addition to the tape is to stake the stem up to take pressure off of it until it repairs itself some.  You would need to give it at least a couple months.

Glad the Miranda is doing well.

Good Growing!

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
