Carnivorous Plants/Dormancy

Question
Hi  Jeff and Jacob!

I live in Israel and  grow tropical carnivorous plants.
This year I planted seeds of North American pitchers (alata, flava, rubra, minor and leucophylla) and VFT.
I grow them outside where in winter temperature in the daytime is 64 F ,at night 45 F. Sometimes it could drop to 32 F and even raise till 80. Humidity is from 50 to 80%. They receive about 4 hours of direct morning sunlight.
Can I hope for winter dormancy for my plants?

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Igor,

That's enough of a seasonal change to induce dormancy.  It may not be cold enough to stratify seeds.  I wasn't sure from your description if you had already germinated the seeds or not.  Those winter temperatures are fine for regular growth.  It's not unlike temperatures that many would experience in the southern U.S. during the winter.  (This winter it's been far colder, however.  Tallahassee, FL just had a low of 22 F!)

Good Growing!

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
