Question
Hello Sarracenia Northwest and greetings from the UK!

I would be most grateful if you could help solve this problem for me. My Nepenthes Sanguinea arrived in the post this morning and has been travelling in below 0.c temperatures for 4 days here in the UK, while stuck in a backlog of deliveries in my area. It was was supposed to be a next day delivery. The soil is rock soild, the pitchers are like sponge, the plant not happy. Is there any way of saving this plant? The leaves are still green but I don't believe it will stay that way for long. At the moment its still in its long tom pot and under a Fluorescent light.

Kindest regards
John

Answer
Hi John,

All you can do is say a few last words.  If it froze, it's gone. :(  Nepenthes are not like some of the tropical sundews that can grow back from their roots.  They are true tropical plants.

Be sure to contact the nursery it came from to see if they can replace it.  If they have the option of using a 72 hour heat pack that will help along with an oversize box and lots of bubble wrap.  We won't ship tropicals to an area having really cold temperatures because of this.  We watch the weather reports and try and wait till temperatures are above freezing.

Good Growing!

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
