Carnivorous Plants/Tiny black bugs in the crack of my nepenthes leaves

Question
Hi you guys. I've just spotted very tiny little black bugs with antennas all over in the cracks at where the leaves and stem meet of my N. Rajah, and lots of them too.  And I spotted a little bit on all my other nepenthes to.  What are these bugs and are they going to kill my nepenthes?  If they are going to kill my nepenthes, then what do I need to spray them with that will kill them quick?  It's concerning me.

Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Agustin,

These sound like a type of scale insect.  They come in on other plants, or can hide in soil sometimes.  Spray all of your Nepenthes with Bayer 3 in 1 insect and disease control.  This contains imidacloprid, is systemic, and will give the best control.  Be sure to follow directions on the package.  Bayer's regular systemic insect control will work fine also.  It's the one I'm using in the podcast.  Check out our podcast on insecticides for more details:  http://www.youtube.com/user/SarraceniaNorthwest#p/u/6/lbRCdJ8ZNF0

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
