Question
Hi once again i know i am bugging you into next year but this is pretty important anyway. I am having where i live temps for the almost whole week we are having temps. in the low 20's to mid to upper teens so i should protect them from that kind of winter temps. shouldn't i? Not to mention wind gusts up to 25-30 mph winds and also not to mention GUSTS so my Venus flytrap, Sarracenia, Darlington, N A Sundews all of them should be protected from this weather right and can i just put 5 gallon buckets on them or do they need heavier protection? I need a fast response please thanks!

Answer
Hi Ean,

Since many of your plants were just purchased from a store, they are not acclimated to winter weather.  Keeping them indoors in a cool window is a better option.  If you have plants that have been outdoors since summer, those can handle the cold.  Using a bucket weighted down can work very well for a plant or two.  If your temperatures are staying above freezing during the day your plants are probably going to be fine.  As I said before, however, the plants you just got from the store, they can't handle the cold.

Good Growing!

PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR QUESTION:
We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
