Carnivorous Plants/N. Ventricosa

Question
Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the help.  Anyways I got some fertilizer and some distilled water and went to check on my Ventricosa and saw the growth point was browning now as well, so it was on its way out.  I decided to unpot it and see how hard it is to work with LFS and the plant didn't even have roots!  I'm surprised it lasted this long!

So anyways now I got this fertilizer(the same kind you use in the sundew dvd) and I was thinking of how I could use it.  I have a N. Miranda that had cold damage when it was shipped, and is now recovering.  It currently has 2 small growth points growing in, the longest one is about 1cm.  Would this be a good candidate for fertilizing?  And if so any tips?  It's potted in peat/perlite in a sunny west window.

Answer
Hi Shayne,

It would.  Just be easy on how much you use.  Too much fertilzer on a Nepenthes an you'll see no pitchers.  Stick with 1/4 tsp. per gallon of water, once every two weeks.  Once you start getting pitchers, back off the fertilizer and try to feed it bugs.  This will give you nice big pitchers.  N. x miranda can grow fairly fast.

Good Growing!

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
