Carnivorous Plants/Nepenthes Ventricosa

Question
Hello,

I have a Nepenthes ventricosa that is just getting over a mite/ fungus problem and it is producing a flower stalk.

Can you please tell me if it is okay to keep the flower stalk or if I should cut it off?
It doesn't have any pitchers on it and I am not sure if it has fully recovered.

I also planted some Sarracenia and Darlingtonia seeds in the winter to stratify them but I cannot find any seeds in the surface anymore. When will the seeds germinate?

Thank you very much
-Jamie

Answer
Hi Jamie,

If your plant has no pitchers, it's a smaller plant, and if you don't have another Nepenthes of the opposite sex to cross pollinate with, there is no reason to keep the flower.  They're not all that pretty, they smell weird, and it does slow the plant down some.  Cut it off.

I can't really comment much on the seeds, since I don't know anything about how you set them up for the winter.  Here in Oregon we don't usually see germination of Sarracenia seed until mid April.

Good Growing!

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
