Carnivorous Plants/Strange sprout in Drosera?

Question

Strange Sprout
Hello

Well I've had this Drosera from you guys for almost 3 months, and this is the first time I've seen such a thing on this plant.  I'm not sure what it is the stem is harder and doesn't move like the other leaves on the plant and it has green ball-shaped figures on the end, any idea what it is?

Thanks Justin

Answer
Hi Justin,

That would be a flower stalk!  That means your plant is happy.  As long as you're growing your plant in very bright light, your plant will be able to sustain both leaves and flowers.  Judging from the red stems, you're definitely giving your plant ample light.  That's also a sign of a happy plant.

It'll bloom within a few weeks.  Don't bother trying to pollinate it.  It's actually a lot easier to propagate your sundew from root cuttings.  We demonstrate this in Volume 2 of the DVD series.

Good growing!
