Carnivorous Plants/Fertilizing Nepethes

Question
I have read, in numerous places, not to fertilize the tropical nepenthe, but about a year ago I tried an experiment and started using Eleanor's VF-11 "'seems like magic' on all your plants" (0.15 0.85 0.55) and I've been very happy with the results. I live in San Jose, CA and since I starting using this dilute fertilizer my tropic nepenthes are growing like crazy and producing huge pitchers all year round.
Do you foresee any long term negative affects from using this?

Plants are inside and get filtered afternoon sun and are growing among bromiliads and related plants. They never get hot direct sun.

Answer
Hi Gary,

The NPK ratios seem very low, so that's probably why it's working well for you.  As long as the concentration is low and you provide lots of sunlight, you can continue doing what you're doing.  The long-term issues will depend heavily on your watering method.  If you flush your soil regularly and fertilizer once over 4-5 waterings, the plants should be OK.  For good measure, you should also change the soil yearly to prevent nutrient buildup.

Good growing!

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
