Question

green stuff
Allexperts,

I have a question about what this green stuff that is growing in these pots.  Is it a kind of mold or fungi or algae.   I have attached a picture of the  green stuff in the pots. Can you tell what I can do to get rid of it.

Sincerely,

Weylin

P.S = the sundew is already getting dew. The fastest recovery from the shipping process yet.

Answer
Hi Weylin,

Glad the sundew is looking good.

Indeed that is algae, and the best thing to do about it is to get a nice comfortable lawn chair and a cold drink on a hot day, relax and not worry about it.  Since that is a Sarracenia, and you have it outside, (You do have it outside don't you?) strong sunlight tends to not let it get to rampant.  You'll have less of it if you keep the water level no more than 1/4 of the way up the pot.  Keeping the water higher than that can cause more algae and other problems.  Overall algae growing on the soil surface is of little consequence to a Sarracenia.

Good Growing!

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
