Carnivorous Plants/Live Sphagnum Infested?

Question
Hello, I've been growing Live sphagnum moss for a couple months to use it as a mix for carnivorous plants in the future.  I keep the moss waterlogged in a clear container filled very high with RO water.  But I just noticed that there are worms and other macroverdabrates swimming in the moss, and it's all over.  What can I do about it?  Am I doing something wrong?  It's discusting, I don't want the moss to go to waste, It's basically turned into an ecosystem for those pests.

Thank You.

Answer
Hi Agustin,

You probably have too much water on the moss.  Sphagnum will grow just fine if you keep a layer of peat moss below it and just keep the peat wet.  The top of the sphagnum should be out of the water.   Also, change the water periodically.  It sounds like what you have is like a stagnant goldfish bowl.  Otherwise many little critters make their home in the moss.  It just comes with the territory.

Good Growing!

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
