Question
I've been successfully growing Sarracenia's for over 6 years now. A problem that i continue to have is when beautiful pitchers get blown over by the wind. (I live in SD) I realize this is a part of nature and the plants are used to this happening. But that doesn't mean i have to like it. Are there any tricks to keeping this from happening?
Hi Darren,
You either need to create a wind block of some kind close to the plants, or position pots so they can't fall over. Using bricks can help, or potting them up in heavy pots should do the trick also. If you're having the pitchers actually broken off, you'll need to create a wind block around the plants. Since I don't know what the area looks like where you have them, you just have to be creative with what you have or can find. One idea would be to use cinder block to create a short wall on the windy side of your plants.
