Question

my seeds
I have a question. After planting the seeds in a 1-1 mixture of peat moss and perlite.do you cover the pot or container and put it in a lighted window or under artificial light so the moister gets into the container.or do you have to have it standing in a dish of water. I have my seeds in a plastic container with a cover on my window sill it gets light but no sun.I can see the moister inside the containers is that good.

Answer
Hi Sammy,

As long as the seeds stay moist this is fine.  Just make sure to spray with a sulfur based fungicide since mold can develop quickly in a closed environment.  You will need to harden off seedlings once you get germination.  Check periodically to make sure the media isn't drying out.  It sounds like you are being careful of this, but in a clear, closed container they shouldn't ever be in full sun; they'll cook.

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
