Question

unknown nepenthes
Can you help me identify this nepenthes plant I purchased from southern California?  I would love to know what I have and collect more in the future.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Scott,

This is a Nepenthes x deRoose's alata.  It's a hybrid of N. alata x (N. ventricosa x N. alata).  It's a very vigourous and easy to grow plant.

On a side note, the only reason I knew this is because of the pot.  These are produced by deRoose plants and we have many of them.  If it were a random Nepenthes with no pitchers, I.D. would be near impossible.  With 80 or so different Nepenthes and hundreds of hybrids, they look way too much alike.  We can make some guesses about it's parentage with pitchers if it's a common variety.

Good Growing!

CommentThank you Jeff, Im glad I have the Nepenthes Deroose alata plant in the pot still. Im learning so much from the site and thank you for your help. I'm excited the pitchers are developing as fast as they are as well as the leaves. I hope I can air layer this plant in the future. Thank you for your time and expertise!!!
