Question
HI there, after watching your video I moved my nepenthes (Alata, Ventricosa, Rafflesiana, Ventrata) from an indoor greenhouse to my south facing windowsill in my flat/apartment. They are doing extremmly well, pitchers are huge and new growing points everywhere! My question is regarding what to do in the winter? Will they die over winter with the reduced sunlight hours? Im using peat, perlite topped with spaghnam moss. Should i move them back to the indoor greenhouse with artificial lighting? I live in Scotland. Thanks for your time, Michael :O)
Hi Michael,
If you have better lighting in the greenhouse during the winter, that may be the better place. Our Pacific Northwest winters are very similar to the British Isles, and we find most windowsill Nepenthes will loose their pitchers during the short dark days of winter. They will still be big and leafy, but they don't have enough sun to manufacture pitchers. If you keep their photoperiod up with artificial light they should keep pitchering.
