QUESTION: Can you identify this sarracenia and what zone its in.

thank you, Jake

ANSWER: Hi Jake,

This looks like a complex Sarracenia hybrid.  It definitely has features of S. leucophylla and S. purpurea, but doesn't look like a straight cross between those two.  It may also have some S. minor in there too.  With that kind of parentage I'd consider it zone 7 or 8.  It will need protection for sustained periods of cold below 20 degrees F.  An overnight frost would be of no concern.

Where did it come from?

QUESTION: It was a sickly little plant that i rescued from a green house.
To me the pitcher plant looks like a doodlebug  hybrid.
Here is what it was like when i bought it.

ps, are you going to sell northern purpurea again ?

Answer
Hi Jake,

We probably won't have and S. purpurea ssp. purpurea available for at least a year.

Here's a link to some Doodlebug pictures.  That's a much smaller plant than yours with quite a different color scheme.  http://www.cpphotofinder.com/sarracenia-doodle-bug-2808.html

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
