Question
I am interested in constructing a carnivorous bog garden. I
live in USDA zone 4 and am planning on growing northern
pitcher plants and drosera rotundifolia, both native to the
area. I have read on other blogs of bog gardens in zones 5
supporting plants such as venus flytraps, sundews and
pitcher plants found farther south. They continue to
survive the winter each year and grow back in the spring.
Is there a chance if I planted similar species along with
the natives that they could survive in the bog garden?
Hi Mark,
You will be able to grow most all of the Sarracenia species, flytraps and most North American sundews. You just need to cover and mulch your bog very well before severe cold comes your way. We have a very good customer in upstate New York that does very well with her bog garden each year.
