Carnivorous Plants/N. Jamban

Question
Hi,  bought a N. Jamban from your nursery about six months ago. Since then I have had it in a terrarium with my other highlanders. It receives typical highlander treatment(80 deg F day 55-60degF night 60 to 80 percent relative humidity) 15 hour photo period. In the time I have owned it it has grown very slowly and spits out small goofy leaves. It has pitchered several times for me. I keep reading on the forums what an easy plant it is and very fast growing, apparently. I dont know what I'm doing wrong? I have to wonder if it is sensitive to the superthrive I spray approxomatly once a month. Any ideas? Thanx Pete

Answer
Hi Pete,

The Superthrive may be the problem if it is being sprayed on the leaves.  It contains a rooting hormone to help root development, but isn't really designed to go on leaves.  I might be messing with the growth.  Your conditions sound great.  You might also try a weak foliar fertilizer, but no Superthrive.  Ours don't grow fast, but they are doing fine.  They get a foliar fertilizer spray of an orchid fertilizer once every two weeks.  It's Grow-More (blue) for Phaleonopsis mixed at 1/4 strength.

Good Growing!

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
