Question
Hi, I live USDA zone 4 and have been growing a sarracenia cultivar
"Dana's Delight" on my deck this summer. I grow it in the soil i bout it in,
and water it with the tray method. I use distilled water. Lately, the
pithchers have started to have brown spots appear on them and they
seem to be slowly dying off. We have had some cool wet weather for
august recently and I'm wondering if the plant is preparing for hibernation
since it comes from a warmer climate or if it is just dying. Thanks for your
help!
Hi Hayden,
What this sounds like is dead spots that develop from catching lots of bugs. This is very normal in Sarracenia late in the summer. Depending on how cold it's been at night in your area, the plant may be starting to shut down for dormancy. If you send me a photo of the plant I can give you a better assessment.
