Question

D. spatulata - Spoon L
Hello

Recenlty I've purchased a D. spatulata - Spoon Leaf Sundew, Fraser Island from Www.Cobraplants.com and upon opening my plant I saw little flower buds forming from the plant, now they are huge! crawling around the windowsill but not one seed. I move the flowers with a brush and not move them at all but no seeds. Can this plant be reproduced from the flowers?

Thanks Justin

Answer
Hi Justin,

This variety of Drosera spatulata rarely produces seeds.  It may require a plant that is genetically different from it.  Since all varieties of this plant sold within the United States are of the same clone, it's highly unlikely you will see any seeds.  The plant reproduces very readily via runners, so it's not necessary to obtain seeds to propagate this plant.

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
