Question

darlintonia
Allexperts,

I have a darlintonia that has been growing inside under  lights.   How do I get
this plant to go dormant during the dormant period.  Is it okay to put it outside
when the frost comes?  Should put it in the fridge instead? The Darlintonia is a
Coastal type if that helps at all.  I have attached a picture of the plant as well.

Sincerely,

Weylin Callery

Answer
Hi Weylin,

You've done very well with this plant.  You have a fairly cold climate during the winter, and Darlingtonia is zone 8.  If you just move it to a colder north window for the mid-winter it should be fine.  If it experiences temperatures in the 40's at night along with the short days, it will go dormant.

Good Growing!
